Employees and volunteers of Red Cross Societies from around the world have offered to help and add their specific expertise to the massive ongoing relief effort of the American Red Cross, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Experts in logistics and first aid, along with additional Spanish speaking workers are among those offering assistance.

Personnel from the Red Cross societies of Great Britain, Canada, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Mexico and many others have offered their support to the American Red Cross. Six logisticians from various members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are already en route to Baton Rouge, while 70 more have offered their expertise. Logisticians are vital to relief efforts, helping with supply-chain management, shipping, warehousing fleet management and disbursement of supplies.

A cadre of 50 EMT-trained staff from the Mexican Red Cross is also planning to travel to the storm-ravaged Gulf Coast to assist with first aid, medical assistance and to act as translators for Spanish speaking victims.

"The American Red Cross is extremely grateful for the timely help given by our international partners," said Marsha J. Evans, Red Cross President and CEO. "Just as with the tsunamis last year, this shows the unique ability of the Red Cross movement to reach across the globe, and collaboratively provide relief wherever there is suffering."

The American Red Cross, in partnership with FEMA and other governmental and non-profit agencies, is part of a monumental response to this disaster. As we all work to assist victims of this catastrophic event, the Red Cross is there to address the basic needs of those affected. The Red Cross response to Hurricane Katrina is the largest response to a single domestic disaster in the organization's history.
