America's Second Harvest, the nation's leading hunger relief organization, today announced the appointment of a senior food industry, communications and public policy executive, Ertharin Cousin, to the position of Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President.

Her senior management, business development, communications and coalition building experience coupled with her political and government acumen make Ertharin an ideal candidate for this demanding new role," said Bob Forney America's Second Harvest President and Chief Executive Officer.

Effective February 16, Cousin will have direct reporting responsibilities for Food and Logistics operations, including food sourcing, transportation, and food manufacturing and retail partnerships; External Relations including fund development, integrated marketing communications, and public policy; as well as Finance and Administration including human resources, budget and legal.

Cousin, 46, brings over 20 years of senior management and leadership experience to this new opportunity. For the past seven years she has worked with Albertsons, the food and drug retailer, serving for the past several years as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs. As a member of that company's executive leadership team, she reported directly to the chief executive officer. She worked in the Clinton administration for four years, first with the Democratic National Committee, then as White House Liaison for the U.S. Department of State. Prior to her Washington experience she earned a positive reputation across Illinois for her work with various government, political and corporate organizations including the Illinois Attorney General's office, the Chicago Ethics Board, AT& T, as well as numerous state and local political campaigns. Cousin earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and law degree from the University of Georgia. She is the mother of an adult son, Maurice and resides in the City of Chicago.
