The third and final day of North Central Florida Festival 2002 drew an overflow crowd to the O'Connell Center at the University of Florida. Fifteen minutes after the Festival program began the arena was full to capacity. Several hundred people watched the Festival on a Jumbotron video screen outside the venue.
Even outdoors in front of the screen, the overflow crowd clapped and danced to the gospel music of special guests Kirk Franklin and Nicole C. Mullen.
In his final message Franklin Graham spoke to those who felt that living the Christian life would be impossible: "With Christ living in your heart you will have the power to say 'no' to sin -- you'll have the power to live a life that's free. You can leave here tonight with a brand-new hope."
By the end of Festival 2002 more than 2,000 people had registered commitments to Jesus Christ.
"My prayer is that we will be renewed in our passion for those who are wandering around -- for them to receive the life that God wants them to have," said Bob Edmunds, executive chair of the Festival 2002 Committee. "We need to stretch and grow -- my prayer is that we'll do that as a community."
Franklin Graham's next Festival will be in College Station, Texas.
