Long-time friends, and church leaders from around the globe will gather July 30, 2003 at First Baptist Church in Orlando, Fla. to honor a man who is credited with helping deliver the gospel message of Jesus Christ to billions of people worldwide.
William R. "Bill" Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, the world's largest Christian ministry, died July 19 from complications related to pulmonary fibrosis. He was 81.
Last night, a private memorial service of some 5,000 Campus Crusade for Christ staff and family was held in Ft. Collins, Colo. During the service, Bill Bright's widow, Vonette reflected on their 54 years of marriage. Her comments were followed by a video address recently recorded by Bill Bright for the Campus Crusade for Christ staff.
Fueled by his passion to present the love and claims of Jesus Christ to "every living person on earth," Bright spent more than five decades building and leading the Orlando, Florida-based Campus Crusade for Christ, which currently operates in 191 countries on six continents.
Bill Bright is survived by his wife Vonette, who assisted him in founding Campus Crusade for Christ; his sister Florence Skinner; his brother Forest Bright; his son Zachary, who is pastor of Divine Savior Presbyterian Church in California; son Bradley, who is on staff with Campus Crusade; and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the William R. Bright Legacy Trust to further the work to which he gave his life.
