Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation

The Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation, formerly the Cancer Research Foundation of America, is a national, non-profit health foundation whose mission is the prevention and early detection of cancer through scientific research and education.

The Foundation focuses its energies and resources on those cancers—including lung, breast, prostate, colorectal, cervical, skin and testicular—that can be prevented through lifestyle changes or detection and treatment in their early stages.

Forerunner in progressive research

When the Foundation began its work in 1985, cancer prevention was not regarded as a major strategy in the war against cancer. Scientists primarily focused on discovering new cancer treatments rather than thinking about ways to prevent the disease from ever developing.

Today, however, prevention research is recognized as essential to the fight against cancer. Now that scientists better understand how tumors develop, they are learning ways that people can reduce their cancer risks.

The Foundation has played a pivotal role in initiating these scientific advances. Since its inception, the Foundation has provided funding to 200+ scientists at more than 100 leading academic institutions across the country.

Active in the community

In addition, the Foundation's public education programs have made real-life use of this scientific knowledge by teaching people ways they can reduce their cancer risks. By explaining the benefits of healthy eating, regular exercise and adherence to screening recommendations, the Foundation has shown thousands of men, women and children ways they can protect themselves against cancer.
