Aid Workers Under Attack in Afghanistan

Attacks against aid workers in Afghanistan have increased dramatically over recent months, as the adjacent CARE chart shows.

Last month, six people working for international aid agencies were executed in deliberate targeting of humanitarian workers in the Afghanistan countryside.

With their deaths, more humanitarian workers were murdered in Afghanistan in the month of September than in all the months since the fall of the Taliban two years ago.

CARE officials fear that unless more is done to address security, reconstruction efforts will stall, and the Afghan people will have to wait even longer for promised relief and international support. CARE is calling for NATO to expand its peacekeeping force beyond Kabul.
