Trish Katyoka, former professional staff member on the House Committee on International Relations, this week joined humanitarian organization Catholic Relief Services as Legislative Associate. Ms. Katyoka will work with the agency's legislative affairs team to advocate for U.S. policies that help improve the lives of the poor and marginalized communities overseas.
Ms. Katyoka handled African Affairs for Committee Chairman Rep. Henry Hyde of Illinois. She oversaw Administration operations in the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the National Security Council. Her work focused on issues affecting the developing countries in Africa, such as public health, trade and development, humanitarian relief, social justice and human rights.
Ms. Katyoka is a graduate of George Washington University Law School and holds a bachelor's degree from McMaster University in Canada.
She will join Douglas Norell, Director of Legislative Affairs, in CRS' Washington office. Mr. Norell, former senior policy advisor to Sen. Byron Dorgan of North Dakota, joined the agency in 2001.
Catholic Relief Services is the official international relief and development agency of the U.S. Catholic community. The agency provides assistance to people in 94 countries and territories on the basis of need, not race, creed or nationality.
