K-Love Radio and Food for the Hungry are pleased to announce that Yvonne Lee of San Mateo, California is the grand prizewinner of the "Where in the Kingdom" contest. Lee won a seven-day mission trip and wildlife adventure for two to Guatemala, and will get to visit Food for the Hungry project sites and Guatemala tourist attractions.
The contest, modeled after the game "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego," was created to educate Americans about poverty around the world, and to present opportunities to help build God's Kingdom through Food for the Hungry's Child Sponsorship Programs. From April 6 through April 12, K-Love Satellite Network listeners tried to figure out clues to determine which country K-Love's on-air personality, Mike Novak, was visiting. On April 12, Lee called in and correctly identified Guatemala.
"This is so awesome! I've never won anything; I've never even called into a radio station," said an excited Lee.
Food for the Hungry programs in Guatemala include agriculture, health, clean water and sanitation projects as well as supporting local churches, and Child Sponsorship.
Through the Child Sponsorship Program, a sponsor invests $26 a month to help provide a needy child and his or her family access to nutritious food, clean water, medical care, education and an opportunity to learn about the love of Jesus. In this way, the program benefits the sponsored child and the entire community. In return, the sponsor gets regular updates on the child's progress, letters from the child and information on where he or she lives.
Matt Panos, vice president of ministry partners for Food for the Hungry, said, "Few of us will ever have the opportunity to visit a developing country. We're excited that our partnership with K-LOVE has resulted in yet another listener being blessed with this opportunity. Yvonne is in for a treat as she sees how God is manifested in the work of Food for the Hungry in Guatemala. We're about transforming communities, building up the Church, educating leaders and helping families learn to survive. K-LOVE has helped us provide a lifetime experience for Yvonne."
Lee, 31, attends Grace Community Covenant Church and recently married. She and her husband Gary have never been on a foreign mission trip. They plan on going on their seven-day mission trip with Food for the Hungry next spring.
