HOUSTON, Tx., May 21, 2001 - When Houston Cellular became part of Cingular Wireless in January of this year, one change clothing bearing the company's former name and logo resulted in a solution that benefits the entire community.

Cingular Wireless and its employees partnered with Gifts In Kind International, the world's leading charity in product philanthropy, for a unique internal clothing drive. Beginning March 28 and continuing through April 6, employees were asked to donate new and lightly worn Houston Cellular-branded clothing to benefit those in need outside of the Houston market.

"When companies merge, change names or logo designs, branded T-shirts and clothing just get thrown away or placed in the back of the closet. We didn't want that to happen," said Jamie Buckstaff, vice president of marketing, Cingular Wireless Central Region-Houston. "Cingular Wireless and its employees have a strong tradition of supporting community initiatives, and Gifts In Kind International is the perfect organization for this type of donation.

Cingular Wireless has more than 1,200 employees in the Houston area, and the company raised two shirts for every employee, for a total of 2,400 shirts. The donation of new and lightly worn shirts was sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Otero County in Alamogordo, N.M. The donation was coordinated by Gifts in Kind International.

"Gifts In Kind International always welcomes clothing and personal care donations," said Susan Corrigan, Gifts In Kind International's president and chief executive officer. "We were pleased when Cingular Wireless approached Gifts In Kind International about this donation, and we encourage other companies in similar situations to do the same."
