Since 1990, Corienne Gettum has demonstrated her belief in service to her community through various volunteer leadership roles at Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana (Indianapolis) and on the Goodwill Industries Volunteer Services (GIVS) International Board of Directors. She served as membership chair, program chair and president of the Indianapolis GIVS group.
At the international level, Gettum served as membership chair and president and was a member of several Goodwill Industries International, Inc. (GII) board committees. During her service on the GII Centennial Celebration Committee, Gettum came up with the idea to produce a Vintage Fashion Show during the Centennial Celebration event. The event was a success with professional and volunteer models and dozens of vintage fashions from Goodwill retail stores.
In addition to her work with Goodwill, Gettum is involved with organizations that benefit children. While living in Buffalo, NY, Gettum was active in UNICEF. Since moving to Indianapolis, she has become active in the Guild at Marion County Children's Home. She and her husband serve as active Child Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for children.
"Corienne's zest for the Goodwill mission and use of her time and resources make her a strong advocate for our youth and people with disabilities and other disadvantages," says Dorothy Farkas, President of Goodwill Industries Volunteer Services. "Volunteers like Gettum have a tremendous influence on the lives of people and our communities."
One of Gettum's favorite quotes, by writer Dorothy Dix, illustrates what compels this remarkable woman toward community service. "In a world where there is so much to be done, I felt strongly impressed that there must be something for me to do." Gettum's approach to life has earned her the GIVS Lifetime Achievement Award, which highlights individuals who have made meaningful volunteer contributions to Goodwill for a significant amount of time.
