Robert Baker Honored With Kenneth K. King Management Award
During the course of 11 years, Goodwill Industries of Colorado Springs witnessed mounting business and financial gains. During that time, Goodwill saw a 30 percent annual growth rate in competitive job placements and had grown from $5 million to more than $26 million. At the helm of these accomplishments is President and CEO, Robert Baker. Baker is the winner of Goodwill's 2003 Kenneth K. King Management Award, presented to a Goodwill Industries executive in recognition of outstanding management abilities.
Under Baker's leadership, Goodwill grew an endowment of $500,000 to more than $4.5 million, achieved 65 percent of a $4 million fund-raising goal in only six months and garnered more than $9 million in NISH contracts. While Baker develops these current operations and looks to future opportunities, he still manages the needs of his current staff and Goodwill clients.
He aims to build the resources needed to expand services for different client populations. To date, he has created more than 20 diverse services tailored to both people with disabilities and people with other workplace disadvantages. Baker's responsibilities span the entire Goodwill organization from encouraging staff team building and training to re-engineering the retail operation to sustain future growth and consulting other Goodwills. His philosophy is "when a organization supports another, it too learns and grows."
He served on the Goodwill Industries International, Inc. (GII) Board of Directors since 1996 and has been active on several of its committees. Baker was the first CEO to serve a two-year term as Chairman of the Conference of Executives and has mentored developing Goodwill CEOs for many years.
"Bob's leadership and management skills are the type dynamic to preserve and lead an organization," says George W. Kessinger, President and CEO Goodwill Industries International, Inc. "His proven track record shows his ability to successfully manage all Goodwill operations."
